Car Rental:

Toll roads in Portugal are using an electronic toll system. However, the easiest way to pay these is by means of a transponder. So, if you rent a car, make sure that the transponder is provided and your credit card will be automatically charged for use of the motor tolls afterwards. In case of hiring a car, we advise you to use AVIS car rental at the airport of Porto in Portugal. It is confirmed that AVIS offers a transponder (€1,85 per day). Europcar/National/Hertz have informed us not to have any devices in their cars for the toll roads. In the case you decide not to use Avis please ask the car rental to help you with alternative toll payment methods.
